This week we spoke with John Lavinnder about his Sacred Tools of Discernment or Urim and Thummim. John has developed his system of divination using this ancient sacred system by looking back through the Hebrew Scriptures. “…no important decisions were made in the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures without their use. Consulting YHWH took place through the auspice of a priest who wore a breastplate and a linen tunic called a ephod. All Twelve Tribes of Israel were represented on the breastplate by gemstones and their names inscribed on plates that were attached to the shoulders. It is thought by scholars that the Urim and Thummim were contained in a pouch worn under the breastplate. The ancient selection process of the sacred lots was understood as YHWH separating right from wrong.”

John wrote another book called The Ancestors Path about another system of divination from Native American tradition.

“This practical and inspiring book explains the distinct powers of the Native American Six Directions: north, south, east, west, above, and below, that guide ancient ceremonies such as sweat lodge rituals and vision quests, along with strategies from the Tarot and I-Ching. The Ancestors Path uses the throw of two six-sided shaman stones or dice, inscribed with Native American petroglyphs, to help seekers understand the natural influences in their lives and chart unique and personal paths to self-fulfillment. The illustrated book contains a foreword by Fred Wahpepah, a respected Native American Elder”
