#Me Too, What NOW?

January 12th, 2019|0 Comments

The “Me Too” campaign has been in the news a lot lately. As a person who has experienced sexual abuse I’m glad that we’re finally talking about the issue. What concerns me is that I don’t hear very much about the next steps in the process. How are the women who are coming forward going to begin healing? Healing involves forgiving and it seems to me that we’ve become caught in the accusing. While I appreciate that it has been necessary to make an example of some individuals, I don’t see their vilification and/or prosecution as being any sort [...]

I was sexually abused for most of my life. It began when I was about 9 months old with my father “handling” me in an inappropriate way. This continued throughout my childhood, teen years and even into adulthood. As a result, I didn’t know that I could set boundaries. Having had them violated from earliest childhood, I just didn’t have the awareness of having any ability to say NO. By the age of 9 I had been raped, gang raped, and beaten. As a teen I was raped twice by men I knew were a threat. I did nothing [...]

How I Stopped Being a Victim

Most of us (if not all) have experienced some form of abuse in our childhood. I struggled with feeling likes a victim as a result, but came to the realization that identifying myself as a victim did not serve me. When we identify with being a victim we attract others who identify with the role of abuser. So, in a sense, the fact that we are abused is manifested from our identification with the role. If we let go of our identification with that energy, we stop attracting abusers. They may continue in their pattern, but they will [...]

My Healing Journey

March 14th, 2018|0 Comments

I’ve been through a very intense phase of healing in the last few months. It all started about 6 months ago when I began randomly (or what seemed random to me anyway) having panic attacks… I was shaking and my heart was racing for no particular reason. At first it was only occasionally, usually when I first woke up in the morning. Eventually the constant cortisol (stress hormone) levels took a toll on my body and I started having health issues. When I realized this was all connected to inner child coming to the surface I [...]

Ana BokstromCo-Host | Death Doula | Sculptor
Ana had a traumatic childhood that required fairly heroic measures to heal. In the process, she met some amazing healers and developed a passion for helping other people heal as painlessly as possible. Another skill that came out of facing so much shadow was a comfort level with death and the dying, which led to a part-time career as a death doula. The thing Ana does for fun is sculpture – she works with flexible armatures and paper clay – you can see her pieces at http://spiritsculpture.ca
