This weeks interview is with Lorna Visser of the Slocan Valley Community Legacy Society. Lorna wanted to talk to us about Giving Tuesday and the Legacy Society’s hopes that the community would come out and donate to the Legacy Fund this coming Tuesday at the Appletree or the Everbean Cafe. If you’d like to listen to our previous interview with Lorna you can hear it here: https://shifthappens.media/shows/social/slocan-valley-legacy-fund-lorna-visser/
We talked to Lorna about what the Legacy Fund is all about and why they exist. She gave us some of the history of Legacy Funds in Canada and BC and why they started one locally. Lorna and the board of the Legacy Society are very active and dedicated members of the communities in which they reside but Lorna was the one on the hot seat today so we asked her to share a little of her own motivations for volunteering.

Thank you so much for this… it was fun to listen to it again and hear all my opinions! We really had a wide ranging and interesting conversation, didn’t we? Whether it was about the work of community foundations, the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund, or more wide-ranging topics. You pulled me into some woolly personal-opinion territory around scarcity versus abundance, the charitable sector model, what motivates donors, fundraising tactics, social enterprise, our seasonal population in the North part of the Slocan Valley, being an “accidental fundraiser,” fears about money and fundraising, my evil past, our addiction to hydrocarbons, gratitude and generousity… etc.
What a great radio show you two put on, so grateful for the opportunity to be part of it. Many thanks, – Lorna
